This is the X Factor, St. Pius X’s online newspaper.  Now going into our second semester, the X Factor Online is run by the Journalism Class and is an entirely student-run newspaper.  The students do all of the articles, photography and layout.  By being on the journalism staff, they earn one Practical Art credit that goes towards graduation hours.

Second Semester, we gained some bright new faces.  Both talented and eager to learn, our Journalism 1 kids are the cream of the crop.

Faith Wright

Faith is a Junior at SPX.  She is a Photographer on the Journalism 1 team.  Faith plays on the soccer and volleyball team. She is also on the Invasion Club Volleyball team.  In her free time, Faith likes to sleep and play volleyball.  She always has a positive attitude and a smile on her face, and we are lucky to have her in our squad!

 

Sarah Abney

Senior Sarah Abney was on the broadcasting team last semester, and she has switched over to the Journalism team as a Photography expert.  Sarah is in Art IV and has finally finished her portfolio.  Outside of school, Sarah hangs out with her friends often and loves her cat, Arby.  Grey’s Anatomy is her favorite show and she works at Cracker Barrel.  Next year, Sarah plans on studying Education at UMKC and wants to be a First Grade teacher.  Sarah is always making the journalism team laugh and enjoy life.

 

Halle Nelson

Halle is a Junior at Pius.  She is on the Journalism 1 team as a writer.  She is on the swim team. When she is not at school, she likes to spend time at her petting zoo called Guterhund Farms.  She has 13 chickens, 2 rabbits, 2 pigs, 1 goat, and 3 dogs. Halle is very down to earth and is always open for conversation, making her an important part of our team.

 

Erin Balint

Erin is a Senior.  She is on the J1 team as a Writer.  She plays tennis and is the boys’ tennis manager. She is also in SADD.  In her free time, Erin likes to play with her dog Max, volunteer at KC Pet Project, and hang out with her friends. Next year, she will be attending MO State as an Advertising major. Erin brings a friendly attitude to our journalism squad.

 

Michael Hayden

Michael is a Junior at St. Pius. He is a writer for our newspaper.  He is on the Varsity Wrestling team and also plays football and track.  Michael also takes the Tech & Design class.  When he is not at school, Michael likes to hang out with friends and likes to watch Netflix. Michael is a great addition to our paper, he is always ready to put in effort and hard work.

Ryan Barber

Sophomore

Ryan is a Copy Editor for our Journalism Class.  He runs Cross Country and Track and Field. He is a member of StuCo and is a Student Ambassador. In his free time, Ryan likes to relax and watch TV. He also likes to be active and hang out with his friends on the weekends. Next year, Ryan will be a junior and hopes to continue his career in journalism.

Cori Fricke

Senior

Cori is the Advertising Editor for the X Factor.  She is involved in Pep Club and SADD, and loves to spend her free time in the art room.  When she’s not at school, Cori works at a retirement home and likes to spend time with her friends and family.  Next year, Cori will attend Lindenwood College and major in Advertising and Public Relations.

Katie Pileggi

Senior

Katie is the Social Media Editor.  She is an avid member of Student Council, she is a Student Ambassador, a member of SADD and Pep Club, and has played tennis all four years.  Each year, Katie likes to go to Guatemala on a Mission Trip to build stoves for families in need.  Katie also has a passion for dogs.  She will most likely be attending KU next year as a pre-pharmacy student.

Savanna Ott

Senior

Savannah is a Copy Editor at the X Factor. At school, she is involved in SADD, NHS, the Academic Team,  Peer Mentoring and Track and Field.  When she isn’t at school, she likes to read, watch Netflix, and hang out with her friends.  Next year, Savannah is attending Truman University and majoring in Communication Disorders.

Victoria Haggerty

Senior

Victoria is our Design Editor here at the X Factor. She is very involved in school, being captain of the Debate team and a track star.  When she’s not at school, she competes in pageants and is 4th runner up to the National American Miss Missouri Teen 2015 Title. She will be competing this summer for the 2016 Title as well. Next year, Vic will be attending Mizzou and her major is undecided.

Zachary Elling

Senior

Zach is the Feature Photographer for the paper.  Zach is a member of the Photography Club and is a big supporter of Mission Guatemala.  When he is not in class,  he likes to go on adventures and spend time in all of the local coffee shops.  He is also passionate about photography and his faith.  Next year, Zach will be attending UMKC School of Nursing.

Morgan Storm

Senior

Morgan is Editor-in-Chief of the paper. She was captain of the Volleyball team this year and runs Track.  She is also in the National Honor Society, a Student Ambassador, and a member of SADD.  Morgan will be a freshman at Mizzou next year with an undecided major.

Meghan Hayden

Senior

Meghan Hayden

Meghan is the Photography Editor at the X Factor.  She is captain of the Girl’s Swim Team, a member of the Photography Club, and a talented artist.  She will  spend the next two years at Maple Woods College, and the following two at UCM. Meghan hopes to start her own photography studio in the next 10 years.
