The SPX Pommies were at it again, competing January 20th and 21st at the Lee Summit North Invitational. Coming back from their big win at the KC Classic, in December, where Varsity placed 1st in pom, jazz and overall .

“We brought 10 solos, one duet, and two group routines for Varsity and two JV routines  to Lee Summit North,” said Head Dance Coach Mrs. Jill Hamerle.

The Pommies went head-to-head with much tougher schools then the last competition – the KC Classic. The divisions were split up differently. This made the teams in the same division from much larger schools.

“We were a little intimidated at first, and it made it even more exciting when we won, because we weren’t expecting it,” said Senior Madeleine Quinn.

With having three of their dancers injured it was a little stressful, but they practiced hard and still came out on top with Varsity placing 1st in their Pom routine and 1st in their Jazz routine. JV placed 2nd in Mix and 5th in Pom. Finally, Freshman Marissa Leggio, Sophomores Annie Jones, JoAnna Abbott, Angelina Glorioso, Seniors Gabby Mendoza, Madeleine Quinn, Anna Palmentere and Annelise Nissen all metaled in their solo acts.

The dance team preformed at Lee Summit High School in a competition last weekend. Here’s a shot of their jazz dance where they received first, along with first place in Pom.

“I practiced every day and I listened to my music. I think I did good, but I could’ve done better,” said Glorioso, who placed in the top 10 (9th) in a very deep jazz division.

The week of the competition the Pommies heated it up with two to three hour practices every day. During these practices, they worked on cleaning routines, practicing facials and making their movements sharp and crisp.

Senior Cate Perlik is one of the dance team captains along with Seniors Madeleine Quinn and Nick Ragusa. “I’m so lucky to have been given the opportunity to cheer on the Warriors with my best friends these past four years,” said Perlik.

“I practiced everyday. It was hard because there’s a lot of competition, but we got this,” said Sophomore Angelina Glorioso.

The next competition will be the State competition on February 24th and 25th in St. Charles, MO.
