During the upcoming 2016-2017 school year, Pius plans to add a drum line to its after school curriculum and a band to its course selections.  Junior, Jose Cantu who has signed up for band shared his excitement about the new class.

“Basically, we get to bang on some drums, make it sound good, get the crowd pumped, that’s why it’s awesome,” said Cantu.

Guidance Counselor, Mr. Richard Murphy, adds that the new drum line is a great opportunity to earn scholarships.  In addition, drum line is a great way to get in touch with music, and mathematics within set time.

Ms. Nelson, Director of choir and music at SPX was in band in her own high school.

“I would say I think band, like choir, helps develop a sense of comradery with others involved because it’s something that everyone has to work together,” said Nelson.
